We introduce the general shipping calculator for determining the shipment cost of your goods. The shipping calculator is simplfied to only depend on the Gross Weight(w), while BetaRill allows you to specify weight calculations for various ranges of weights. To get started, you will need to use the shipment settings page and choose the create shipping calculation tab.

Note: If you have a trouble with the shipment calculator form, you may use our shipping assistance service by providing your carriers, the shipment methods and the range of weight which you plan to sell (it depends on how much your goods are heavy, or you sell wholesale or retail way, for example),  ie. 2kg -10kg. We will be able to create the shipping cost functions for you based on the information supplied. 

At the tab you will need to fill out the following information: 

1. The Shipment Type: Currently only Domestic or International shipment are the distinguished options, we may add more in future such as Regional.

2. The shipment Method: This field determines the shipment method for domestic or international shipping, good examples are Express, Flat, Overnight, etc. Note this value is a textfield since different carriers may have different names for the shipment method. 

3. Weight Ranges: The minimum and maximum values for the current weight range that your shipping calculation is applicable.  

4. Cost Function: This field determines if the shipping cost is constant within your specified weight range, or it will grow with increasing weight.  

5. Base Cost: The base cost for the cost function. For constant cost function, it is the exact shipping cost for any weight. For growth functions, it represents the shipping cost at 0kg weight(theoretical minimum).

6. Coefficients: The coefficients for cost functions, up to values can be specified for growth functions and they are not applicable for constant cost function.

In order to understand how this works in action, we will provide a few examples: 

• The shipping cost is always $10 for weight up to 5kg: Specify the weight range as from 0kg to 5kg. Select cost function to be Constant, and the cost to be $10. 
• The shipping cost has no constant range, and always increases $3/1kg up to weight 10kg: Specify weight range as from 0kg to 10kg. Then select cost function to be Linear Growth, with base cost at 0, and the first coefficient(k₁) to be $3/kg.  
• The shipping cost starts at $5 for weight 1kg, with a linear growth region at $2/1kg up to 10kg: Specify weight range as from 1kg to 10kg. Then select cost function to be Linear Growth, with base cost at $5, and the first coefficient(k₁) to be $2/kg. 

To specify cost function for another weight range, all you have to do is to save the current cost function, and then complete the same step for a different weight range. In the case of a weight overlap for the same shipment type/method, the shipment calculator will complain with an error and you will need to fix this ambiguity. For instance, it does not work if you specify domestic shipping with express method, with 2 cost functions that both cover the weight range 5kg to 10kg. 

Incase you wish to specify a growth function for your desired weight range, but cannot find the coefficients for your function. You may fill out the data-regression form by clicking the 'Find Coeffients' button, which will automatically find the coefficient(s) for you given 2-3 pairs of weights and costs values. This feature is available for all pro/pro+/pro++ users at the shipment calculator page.
